It’s pumpkin season at Rabun Manor in Dillard, GA

I love pumpkins and especially the unusual ones.  I’ve discovered that there are 42 variaties  of pumpkins and the only ones I don’t like are the ones that are rotten on the vine.  It’s lovely to see chidren of all ages attempting to carry their larger than life pumpkins after they’ve search the pumpkin patch for just the right one.  It reminds me of Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin  and just how sweet it is to expose kids to the pumpkin patch.  There are several great places you can take your kids to either pick their own pumpkin right out of the patch like at Hillside Orchard in TIger, GA  or out of a super stocked pumpkin bin such as Osages market.

I also love what the ladies of the Sky Valley Garden Club do each year with the Hay Bale Trail.  Suer cute expressions on the pumpkins and the bales of decorated hay.

This picture of coffee and donut hay bale reminds me of the delicious donuts you can get at Farmhouse Donuts in downtown Clayton if you are coming up for a day in the Northeast GA mountians.

If you want a more relaxing week end drive up on Friday evening, stay at Rabun Manor enjoy a delicious  breakfast and head out ot one of the many fall festivals in the area.  Rabun Manor  is the perfect half way point between south Rabun County and Sky Valley / Highlands.  Saturday evening is a spectacular time to enjoy the awesome creations of Chef Eric Pitts.  Reservations are not required but certainly appreciated.

Final Round of the Northeast Georgia Throwdown

Chef Eric Pitts

A huge shout out to all of the participants in this noble event! All proceeds went to support the Northeast Georgia Food Bank. Our Chef Eric Pitts made it to the final round and what a fantastic job he did. We are lucky to have been given the opportunity to help and volunteer as a staff and support not only our Chef but a very good cause. Congratulations to Lake Rabun Hotel as they walked away with the win! Thank you to everyone who came out to support these guys.
